The story follows the pilot who has to face a tough time. The pilot, Captain Vikrant Khanna (Ajay Devgn), is a pilot who works with Skyline airlines. On the 16th of August 15th, 2015, he’s in Dubai, and the following day, he’s scheduled to travel to Cochin in India, where he’s located.
Vikrant’s best friend Sandy invites him to join her and have a nightclub party. Vikrant refuses at first. However, he eventually accepts. He attends a nightclub in Dubai with a friend and drinks quite a bit. He arrives at his hotel around 6 am and then goes to bed. He wakes up at the right time and goes to the airport for the Skyline 777 flight to Dubai.
The co-pilot for him will be Tanya (Rakul Preet Singh). The two are warned that Cochin is being impacted by torrential rain before departure. The plane takes off, and when it’s time to arrive, Vikrant and Tanya face problems. Tanya and Vikrant are unable to land. Air Traffic Control at Cochin suggests landing at Trivandrum, which is a place where weather conditions are more pleasant.
However, Vikrant tries to land but is unsuccessful. Then, he travels to Trivandrum. The weather in Trivandrum is also getting worse. There’s a reason why the Air Traffic Control team at Cochin isn’t able to notify Vikrant and Tanya not to travel to Trivandrum.
When Skyline 777 gets to Trivandrum and is informed of the issue by Cochin’s Air Traffic Control Team there, the situation is already too complicated. The aircraft cannot move elsewhere because they’re running short of fuel. Without other options, the pilots choose to make a landing at Trivandrum airport.
The Air Traffic Control staff advises them and recommends that they make their landing on Runway 16. Yet, Vikrant insists on landing on Runway 34, which is a dangerous move in the eyes of the Air Traffic Control team.
But, Vikrant sticks to his plan and, despite many difficulties, finally lands at Runway 34 successfully. However, the problems aren’t over. The AAIB is looking into whether the rules were violated during the plane’s landing. Narayan Vedant (Amitabh Bachchan) of the AAIB pursues personal interests and decides to conduct a drill on Vikrant and Tanya. The next thing that happens is the rest of the movie.
Runway 34 Review
Sandeep Kelwani’s story draws inspiration from actual incidents and is intriguing as it explores an aircraft caught in turbulent conditions and the effects. The film was the first to be produced on the subject before this one in Bollywood. Sandeep Kelwani and Aamil Keeyan Khan’s screenplay is successful during the first half, particularly in air-based scenes.
After the interval, the writing could have improved and less focused on dialogue. Sandeep Kelwani and Aamil Keeyan Khan’s dialogues are well-written, and some one-liners will make you laugh.
Ajay Devgn’s direction was decent. He is a worthy recipient of brownie points for enthralling audiences during the beginning. The way he focused on what was happening inside the cockpit can be evident. The intermission time is excellent clap worthy.
The appearance of Narayan Vedant in the second period increases the anticipation. But the courtroom drama that should be equally thrilling is dragging at this point in the middle and gets too talky. Some moments stand out, however. But it’s way too long.
